The Duke and I by Julia Quinn

Just wanna say I watched the show first.

At first I wasnt gonna read any of the books but I changed my mind. I want to read the books to see for myself the differences between the show and the books. I liked the story and the theme. It’s the execution that wasn’t it for me.

His childhood trauma could’ve been addressed differently, he didn’t have to be forced into “healing”. Love being present doesn’t mean that abuse is justified. He should’ve have gotten the opportunity to decide to confront his anger towards his father.

The man said he didn’t want to get married and he was forced into that, I understand lust and other strong feelings were involved but I just couldn’t ignore how they both played a role in crossing his boundaries.

Simon: He knew what kind of woman Daphne was, her background and what would happen to her reputation if she were to be perceived doing anything sexual before marriage. I think he should’ve been responsible and enforced those boundaries no matter how he felt. He was selfish…like a lot. You either wanna be with her or no. What did he expect? An affair? He knew she wanted marriage…and he knew he was attracted to her from the beginning.

Daphne: Just didn’t give af about what this man was saying. She’s one of those people that pretends to believe you don’t wanna be in a relationship but in the back of their mind their plotting to try and change your mind. Every time this man said no, she completely ignored him and prioritized her wants and needs. I also think it was her responsibility to stay away from Simon. The man said he don’t wanna get married, why proceed to flirt and do that fake dating shit?? And then she had no remorse when she SA’d him. She really thought what she was right just because she didn’t agree with his decision not to want children.

And then like…the man was forced to marry!!!!! The relationship wasn’t shit from the beginning!

Anthony is an ass but he was right to try and separate them even though it was more about his ego than Daphne.

There’s so much more I can say but that’s the gist. But like I said I knew this wasn’t gonna be good but I had to see for myself.
