The Cabin by Jasinda Wilder

Second Chances

I had a hard time reading this book. I cried a lot. Nadia loses her AMAZING husband, Adrian. He's like the champion of all husbands: loving, hard working, funny, supportive, sexy, wealthy, adoring, amazing, wonderful...absolute book husband material. I fell in love with the dude. And then he dies.

The grief is what killed me.

Nadia loses her biscuits. All of them. And, I felt like I went along with her for the ride.

I read this book and thought about my dad. After my mom died, he was a shell of a man...and he's still struggling somewhat. He has a lot of cats now, though.

But, this book is better than real life, because Nadia gets to live in a cool cabin down by a lake and has a nice neighbour making her coffee every morning. Will she learn to live again? Or maybe to just breathe? Certainly she learns to drink this coffee and that's a good start...

I loved this book. The feelings of loss are raw. I imagine Adrian going through the loss of his own life and desperately wanting to make things better for his wife after he's gone. Can you imagine how devastating that would be? Ugh...I'm getting emotional again just thinking about it. There's so much to unpack here. I think if you're looking for a book that might help you see how it's possible to live again after suffering loss, this book might be a good book for you.
