I picked up Bellies as part of the Trans Rights Readthon happening from March 22 to March 29. It's not too late to join :)
Bellies is a Contemporary novel about the intricacies of relationships , belonging, love and identity. Ming and Tom are in their early 20s when they meet. An instant connection leads to a flourishing relationship and great friendships, however when Ming decides to transition, their relationship is put to the test. The story alternates between Ming and Tom's points of views as they navigate their lives.
The pace of the story is quite slow. It is primarily a character driven novel. I quite enjoyed honest and raw conversations our characters have. There is also great representation. Ming is Malaysian and queer at the beginning of the novel before she decides to transition.
Part of me wishes the author included more chapters through Ming's perspective.
