It was ok. Done in epistolary style and with most of the characters from the original, with a few additions.
I don't find the horror genre very scary in general, and so most books like this kind of fail for me right out if the gate.
As "unauthorized" sequels go, it holds its own, I guess.
I can't remember the last time I read a work of fiction that really engaged me. but that says more about me than it does about this book.
