This is a very fine book. In some ways it was more enjoyable than the first book in the series, which was also excellent; if you read the first book and you liked it then you should definitely grab this one as well. Whereas the first book was quite dystopian and spent a lot of time following people near (or at) the very bottom of a truly awful environment, this book focuses more on the people (in some contexts ...some of the same people-) near the top. The fact that you know from the first book about some of the things which are going on at the bottom, the lives of slaves and bridge crews (...Sadeas never did stop using bridge crews..) makes the story much richer in detail than it otherwise would have been.
