The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas

4.0

Wow...

That was something.

While I'm not sure how I feel about this book, I can't outright say I didn't enjoy reading it. It was fun, the pacing was good and it had a unique ending for a "horror" novel.

"The Hacienda" was definitely more of a "Mexican Gothic" than "Mexican Gothic" itself.

The characters were well executed, but I didn't feel a connection to any of them. I expected the story to be more scary (and yes, I'm scared of almost anything).
Don't get me wrong, it was definitely spooky but it didn't make any lasting impact on me (and I see that as a win).

Let's settle for 4/5 ⭐ for now. 3⭐ would be too low, 5⭐ would be too high, so I guess 4⭐ it is~

My Review before I read the book (21. August 2021):

I DESPERATELY want to read this book. Why?
- it is described as "Mexican Gothic meets Rebecca"
- it radiates spooky vibes
- GRRM himself hyped it up so how can I notttt
