It gets 5 stars because it's Shakespeare. Here are the things I really liked: 1) the way prose was used. It was interesting because this play had a lot more prose in it that I was used to in other Shakespeare plays. Even the titular character occasionally slips into prose when he is angry. Looking at when and how Iago uses prose to manipulate other characters would be a fascinating paper topic, but luckily, I'm not reading this for class. 2) I like that they traveled to Cyprus. I felt like the play was more believable because they were not at home; it seems more likely for someone to be off their game when on vacation/ chilling in a place because there was going to be a war but all their enemies drowned. 3) I liked that it was Shakespeare, because of the language and flow of the story.
My only complaints would be about Othello himself. I don't know 100% how to feel about him. I think there's a lot there and I'm not capable or knowledgeable enough to unpack it in a meaningful way.
