I just couldn't get into this book, though I tried. The characters, while being aged somewhere in the low 20s (and I thought this was an adult book, not YA), read as young teenagers - both in dialogue and actions. The world did not always make sense - like why let everyone murder each other at the academy? Why use conscription to force people to be dragon riders and not the infantry? Why don't the dragons rule everything, why do they care about humans at all? Why are the tasks at the academy so dangerous the recruits could die at any second, but they haven't given them any training yet? Why is the son of their villain in their army? I don't know. I wish I could have enjoyed it but it's not for me.
