Meet Me at the Lake by @carleyfortune
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5 stars)

Fern is grieving the unexpected loss of her mother while trying to run Brookbanks, the lakeside resort her mom left her. As if that wasn’t complicated enough, Will arrives — honoring a deal he made with her mother to help revamp the resort.

Fern and Will met ten years ago, sharing one perfect day together. Both were with other people at the time and lived in different cities, so they made a plan to meet at the resort a year later. Will never showed, and Fern has spent the last decade wondering why.

Now, as Fern considers selling the resort to pursue her dream of owning a coffee shop, she’s forced to work with Will and discover who he’s become. Can they still connect, or are they strangers now?

This book made me bawl. I was invested in both timelines — the magic of their first meeting and the bittersweet reality of the present. The connection they made in the past was intense, instantly falling into a natural rhythm filled with banter and vulnerability. Fern is finally able to open up about her love/hate relationship with the resort without worrying about hurting the feelings of her mother, BFF, or boyfriend. Will's outsider perspective and advice give her permission to admit what she really wants and the courage to tell her mom.

Fern’s present-day decision — to sell the resort or honor her mother’s dream — hit me hard. How do you make such a life-altering choice while drowning in grief? I really felt Fern's grief as she navigated through memories of her mother and came to terms with their past.

This book is perfect for anyone who wants an emotional story about second-chance love and what it means to know someone.
