Okay, listen. Before diving into the review, you should check the TW for this series because it can be a lot. Some but not all are: rape, assault, violence, injuries, blood, and death.
I approached the book after watching the first season. even though I knew what was going to happen, I still enjoyed this book immensely. the differences between the tv series and the book are numerous but, I have to admit, that I don't have a preference.
The story is addictive in itself and if you like time travel, you'll love this.
This is also arranged marriage and a slow burn in a way. Jamie is so good that he feels a bit anachronistic at times, but I'll forgive him anything.
You should also be aware that this is definitely 18+. Lots of spice. Our Jamie is a virgin when he marries Claire so you can understand the kind of stamina the boy has.
Since Claire is a nurse and is passionate about botany, the author gives great details about the plants she uses and what are their porpuses and so forth. I found this book so very interesting for the very vivid description of the time it is set in, the traditions and myths of the Highlands. Given that Frank, Claire's first husband, is a history geek, she knows a bit about Scotland and its history so many are the historical details that she gives regarding Prince Charles and the Jacobites' future.
To read something and to watch it on screen are two different experiences. It was painful for me to watch what Randall does to Jamie, to the point that I had to avert my eyes. The series is crude, and harsh and doesn't shy away from portraying violence of any kind. The book doesn't either, but since it's told by Claire, you hear what happened from Jamie and idk, it was still painful but more manageable,
I fell in love with this world. Jamie is the embodiment of book boyfriend material. He is so very sensitive and sensible. Passionate and so so considerate of Claire and her needs. He's always looking back when they walk to see how she's doing, he takes her hand when the ground is rocky etc. I just- I love him. And I think you will too.
