Anatomy: A Love Story
by Dana Schwartz
Gosh, I wanted to love this one - but ultimately, it just didn’t affect me the way that I expected it to. The cover art, the premise, the setting - perfection. The parts of the book that left me with a furrowed brow are all going to require spoilers so I’ll refrain from saying more. That being said, the book was at it’s very best when Hazel was in her dungeon laboratory, becoming a surgeon on her own time - the patriarchy be damned. I didn’t actually need the love story of it all, you know? (I will say that despite other reviews to the contrary, I am so here for the ending.) I’ll conclude by noting that I think this book would have soared if it hadn’t been for a YA audience and that some of the misses for me were probably exactly for that reason.
