Severance

I wanted an apocalyptical novel during this small apocalypse and quarantine time. I wanted to fly through it and marvel at all the end of the world pictures in my head.
But I got non of that.
It was boring.
There was soooo little world building, I wanted to know more about the fever, about societies collapse, about the life after and during... And all I get is pages upon pages of the protagonists past which seems to be there for just that reason, to give her a past and thus 'depth'. The problem is that it doesn't really matter at all for the present story line (things like her mother appearing before her, her old self but changed and chicago at the do not count). Thus it felt even more like a waste of time.
The best part about the book was candace alone in New York. Living in her office and taking pictures of an abandoned city.
The next best part was the survivalist present storyline but in the end I just read it to get through with it.
