I've never read the Great Gatsby, so I went into this completely blind. I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting, but it wasn't for half the characters to get on my nerves. After listening to the authors note, this was actually intentional and to be in line with the source material, but they were still annoying. Nick & Daisy are so oblivious, and Jay is so freaking coy, I just wanted everyone to talk to each other and half this stuff wouldn't have happened. It is pretty funny how Daisy is like an OG Kardashian who got famous for being famous. The random descents in to math made my eyes glaze over, but I like how Nick's skills tied in with the historical timeline and the resolution of the plot.  I can’t say how this stacks up against the Great Gatsby, but if you like historical fiction told from a queer perspective with a side of the frustration that underdeveloped frontal lobes produce, you should check this one out.
