Wild City: A Brief History of New York City in 40 Animals by Thomas Hynes

funny lighthearted fast-paced

3.0

Funny and lighthearted but not super informative. Examples: groundhogs do live in the city but that chapter was entirely given over to telling the story of that time Bill de Blasio dropped a groundhog at the Staten Island Zoo; a lengthy discussion about whether or not there are alligators in the sewers (which was like oooh i dunno maybe you guys!!); and a repeat of the erroneous fact that the guy who released starlings in Central Park was doing it because of Shakespeare (an idea that came up in the 1940s and has been associated with that guy ever since).

P.S. if you are grossed out by roaches and/or bedbugs, there is a VERY detailed chapter about them.
