2.5

ok so can't be bothered to put my notes into a full paragraph here's a list
good:
  • easy to read. light, a little cheesy, but usually avoided the headache most YA books give me
  • both protagonists are bisexual and actually seen in non m/f relationships and talk about them and are influenced by them!!! of course relationships aren't everything/always indicative of sexuality but this is nice in contrast to the usual approach of a passing mention then nothing else ever
neutral
  • not as insightful or nuanced as people act like it is but that's fine. I can enjoy some simple themes whatever
  • switching between past and present is always going to end with one timeline being favored, at first I was fine with it but the sections that take place in the past started to really drag around halfway through
bad
  • I really don't know enough about writing to confidently critique it but in my gut I can tell it wasn't great. very dramatic very stilted dialogue. use a contraction maybe.
  • there are multiple instances of a full page of dramatic single-phase sentences which is ..... something
