Gentleman v Moskvě by Amor Towles

If you approach this as a leisurely-paced, nice story of fiction, you may end up loving it as I did. It hit a few of the right tropes and fantasies.

One member of our book club missed the 'fiction' part of the 'historical fiction' and had a really bad time. Yeah, the realia don't exactly match history. The commies didn't actually punish aristocrats by letting them live in luxury for the rest of their life. (Spoiler alert: They murdered them. Then they murdered their families, their dog, and the last person who sold them pierogi for good measure.)

But if you deny the book its premise, there won't be a book anymore. So I just rolled with it.

Basically: If you don't think you can suspend your disbelief and get over the fact that this is a work of fiction, not a historically accurate one, then maybe give it a pass. Otherwise: go for it, it's great.
