The Age of Miracles
by Karen Thompson Walker
Couldn’t read this one quick enough! I am always intrigued by books about apocalyptic times where the world as we know it is changed irreversibly. It was unique to have this type of story told by a young girl coming of age in the most uncertain of environments. The narrative was persistently ominous as it was told by a future version of the girl growing up during “the slowing.”
My one complaint is that it wasn’t longer! I was hoping to learn more about Julia’s experiences in the present or even in the time after her narrative ends… though I’m sure the author was truly trying to highlight the reality of the lives and emotions of the people going through something like this, rather than scratch the readers’ curiosities about a post-apocalyptic scenario unfolding.
Would read another book by this author!
