Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive by Stephanie Land
3.0
There were things I loved about this book and things I hated about this book.
The author does a lovely job of describing what it is like to struggle for basic necessities. Believe me. Been there, done that. A lot of people would do well to read this and learn that most people who are struggling financially are fiercely fighting to do better.
What I didn't enjoy was feeling like I was reading the same thing over and over again. I wasn't, but the whole story was her cleaning, complaining, kid being sick and cleaning some more. A few small, but cringeworthy moments for me were when she mentions trying on a cashmere sweater that belongs to the homeowner of one of the houses she cleans. Also, snooping around reading their notes and mail. Yikes! Remember when I said been there, done that? I've also cleaned houses and that was always a huge no no in my book.
