The Bride Test
by Helen Hoang
I really liked Hoang's first romcom, The Kiss Quotient, and The Bride Test was a bit disappointing but still worth reading -- it's cute, funny, and fast.
I didn't believe the relationship in this one as much though, and it seemed to be more about attraction than genuine friendship or admiration between Esme and Khai (I could have done with a lot fewer scenes of Khai's unintentional boners). They didn't speak very much, and didn't reveal their true selves until the very end, so I'm not sure I believed them falling in love. They were both very passive characters with the side characters constantly translating and explaining their emotions -- not a great start to a relationship.
The Bride Test did make me laugh out loud in several places, and I appreciated the autism and Vietnamese representation. But overall I enjoyed the comedy in this one more than the romance. I'll read the third book but am hoping for a little more depth.
