Mennonite in a Little Black Dress: A Memoir of Going Home by Rhoda Janzen
4.0
this is dubbed a memoir, but reads more like a collection of essays.
janzen gets divorced from a husband that leaves her for another man. her ex-husband has put her through a traumatic fifteen year marriage with extreme highs and lows due to his bi-polarism. upon the divorce, janzen retursn to her home, california, and the mennonite community in which she grew up in.
this i found interesting. perhaps because i have a friend that is mennonite i found her explanations of lifestyle choices and religious doctrine interesting.
there are moments of real poignancy and moments of levity. a quick, but interesting read.
