Another Fine Myth by Robert Lynn Asprin

4.0

Love these stories - and Robert Asprin as an author and his worlds. I read these quite a few years back and when I discovered they were being released in ebook, I got them to read again.
This is the first book in the series. Skeeve is studying magic under Garkin, when they get into a fuss about Skeeve not practicing as he should. So, to prove a point, Gharkin summons a demon - unfortunately, an assassin finds Gharkin at the same time. The demon summoned is an inhabitant of Perv (a Pervect), a friend of Gharkin's, unfortunately Gharkin had removed Aaahz' magical power when he summoned him and Gharkin is dead. So, now Aahz has no magic, Skeeve is an apprentice without an understanding of magic or of the other worlds. There are assassins still after them. Aahz has no way to get them to another world and doesn't trust Skeeve's abiities to transport them. So, they go looking for the man who sent the assassins after Gharkin.
There is plenty of confusion due to Skeeve not understanding many of Aahz' references and only having a very basic understanding of magic and none of other worlds besides his homeworld of Klah (which makes Skeeve a Klahd).
These stories are full of fun, puns, complications and surprising twists. As when Skeeve acquires a dragon at the Bazaar on Deva because it eats his sleeve!
