General series review:  5/5 would recommend.
Meatbun never misses when it comes to making her characters go through so much pain and angst and making me love it.

Taking -0.75 from this volume specifically because of the princess mengze storyline.
After going through all that effort to show how women even those with proximity to power are considered second class citizens in this universe, making a man didn't make any sense. Undoing all that work to make the prophecy plotline make sense wasn't a worthy trade off to me.

I also would have also loved to see where Yue chenqing ended up
after giving away his uncle's scrolls. Did that mean that he abandoned his dream to continue Murong Chuyi's legacy?
Felt odd how they ended his story.

I also thought it odd that Gu Mang (and Mo Xi) loved his soldiers enough to die for them but were okay just letting everyone think they're dead?

I will admit that I thought nothing would make me like murong lian but I was wrong. He grew on me and I'm happy that we got a happy ending for Mo Xi and Gu Mang, they deserved it.

Anyway, the series could've have been perfect with just a few tweaks but overall it was a really great read.
