I wanted to love it! I heard such good things but magical realism is not for me and I found the romance elements of the book incredibly cringe inducing. I think there were supposed to be surprises but everything just felt so predictable. Ricki was hard for me to enjoy. There was a lot of talk about her family bullying her but, to me, it also felt like she was irrationally angry at them. Even the found family elements felt like we were being hit over the head with them. You can have found family without constantly referring to them as grandma. I know this book worked for a lot of people but for me it was just a struggle I was excited to be done with.
