Best Fantasy book of the year? Easy yes.

Reina and Eva are two humanoids on a verging path: escaping colonialism, religious scrutiny, humans that hate them, all for a slim chance at beholding their destiny. An absolute grim, guttural, and fantasy-lovers dream tale. Steeped in rich South American folklore with beautiful sapphic and complicated romance - this book needs to be on your 2023 bucket list.

Thumbs up: I was so heavily invested in these complex characters, the heavy world building, and brand new magic system. The characters were all so multifaceted and real.  It felt as rich as the Daevabad Trilogy and gut wrenching as The Final Strife. I am rarely this blown away but WOW. You have made a super fan of me.

Thumbs down: If you're going to put indexes in to explain language, people, places, put it all together in the front or back. Having it in both was a bit annoying to flip back and forth.

Was it a nail biter? Down to the knuckles, you need this book.
