We Deserve Monuments by Jas Hammonds

4.0

You spend nearly this entire book wanting to know more just like Avery does and and at the end I really think you still come out with questions about it. You will love characters at points and then hate them a few chapters later and eventually round back to liking them again. It's complex as shit that way. I think the one character I did like the entire way through was Mama Letty, that woman was a crabby ass old lady with ruined dreams and a nightmare filled past who kinda hated when someone so much as BREATHED on her but she's kinda charming Imfao. Watching hers and Avery's relationship grow through the book was one of my favorite things and the ending left me a little devastated ngl. Like I had a feeling it would be but I didn't expect it to hurt as bad as it did.

I liked that there was chapters that were like snippets of the past to help tell the story from different random characters, it was a super cool way to push the story forward. I especially loved the one at the end because it told us a little of what happened to Bardell and some characters after the story and I like to know little things like that even if they add literally nothing to the story itself. It's weird to me to read a 300 page book and meet these characters and then not know what happens to them at the end? Idk little things here and I appreciate them. I wasn't expecting one of the twists that happened though like theres a few mysteries in this book but I wasn't expecting an answer to that specific one and it was shocking ngl. Very vague I know but I cant say a lot about it without spoiling it? You just have to read and figure out what I mean here lol. I think ill be picking up Jas Hammonds next book honestly, I already liked the cover but Im glad I read this first to get a taste for their writing style n such. Also because i've heard many good things about this one since it came out.
