shmsy 's review for:
When the Duke Was Wicked
by Lorraine Heath
I had some real issues with this book. Firstly artistic license aside with the whole mastectomy thing and the timings and treatments of breast cancer, when I read a historical romance I expect to read romance in the context of the mores and customs of the time. Language too, though in this case I don't have a problem with that. It just seemed so farcical that a young girl could come and go to a bachelors residence or that she could go in a closed carriage without any repercussion in a time when women at least had to have a maid when out and about. Maybe I'm being picky but there was just too much of unconventional behavior to give a complete pass. Rant over.
But beyond the wrapping of the tale, the core of a young girl looking for love so her 'imperfection' could be overlooked. well that just tugged at my heartstrings. And the only reason my rating is 3*'s.
