Books and Brunch Bookclub - February Book

This was my first Sara Cate book and I was not disappointed! It had the perfect level of spice and romance, and the complexities of the main characters really drew me in.

Sylvie, a lonely and lost woman who is stubborn to a fault, finds herself offered a deal; sign a contract to marry a brutish and reclusive Scotsman for a year and receive ten million dollars. With nothing left for her in New York, she moves to his grandiose manor and finds herself with a lot more than she expected.
Killian is stuck in his grief and his fear, fighting with his family because of the reputation he's garnered for his wild parties and sexual escapades.
Together they fight and provoke each other at every turn, mirroring each other in more ways than they realise, until eventually hate begins to blur into passion.

I really appreciated the journey both Sylvie and Killian went on throughout this book, both together as they began to heal from their traumas, and apart, as they came to grow and respect themselves.

I felt slightly uncomfortable with the level of hate in the beginning, particularly the name calling, because bully romance is totally not my thing, but the "enemies to lovers" definitely paid off in a really well-flowing and authentic way. I did really like that they actually seemed to hate each other too, not just vaguely annoy each other as seems to be the way with the trope sometimes.

Also, I will always love a Scotsman πŸ”₯
