Heartbreak for Hire
by Sonia Hartl
Heartbreak for Hire was a cute rom-com that moved along at a quick pace. While this book was a bit convoluted and nothing groundbreaking, it was an enjoyable way to pass the time. The steaminess was a bit much for me but I'm fine with just skimming/skipping those sections.
Brinkley was an interesting character. She has a crazy job (getting revenge on men for a variety of sins) that created some unique scenarios in the book. Brinkley was stuck in her current situation and afraid to take a risk to achieve her dreams. Mark comes along and shakes that all up. He's a part-time professor who goes to work alongside Brinkley after being a former target of hers. They have an intense attraction but there's also some animosity there because of the initial meeting. As they work together they develop a friendship and then later start a relationship. They do have a lot of petty arguments that really made Brinkley seem immature.
There are a lot of story lines in this book. Brinkley and her mom drama, Brinkley and her boss drama, Brinkley and her second guessing her career, Brinkley and her art, Mark and his grandfather's ambition, Mark and his job, then the primary love story. It all was a little much to bring together.
Overall, this book was an easy, enjoyable read. It could have used some tightening up with the story lines and I could have used a little less steam and a little more communication.
