Hoot by Carl Hiaasen

3.0

Although it is not evident by my shelves here, I have read Carl Hiaasen before. I was looking for an funny audiobook and decided to try one of Hiaasen's kids' titles. I thought he might do a good job writing for children and I was correct. As at least one professional review said, Hiaasen's humor has a decidedly juvenile bend to it.

Roy Eberhardt, his family, friends, a building site and a bunch of owls made for an entertaining listen. Hiaasen takes typical kid and adult behaviors and has a lot of fun telling his tale. The reader, Chad Lowe, does a good job with the story. There is nothing new in this tale, but at the end this listener was very satisfied with how it all works out.

I think this book would make a great audiobook for a family car trip, maybe even to Florida. I would think that reluctant readers, especially boys, would find this interesting enough to stick with it.
