Everneath by Brodi Ashton

3.0

Sad to say I didn't love this book as much as I had hoped, considering just about every friend who ready it gave it 4 and 5 star reviews.

As usual with paranormal YA books, I loved the world the author created here - I was intrigued and wanted to know more about the Everneath, the Everlivings and their royalty
Spoilerand the cult that breeds women (only women!?) to be forfeits.
I really liked the mythology angle, but I wish it was weaved in throughout the book instead of only touched on here and there. I didn't even realize this was such a big part of the story till toward the end.

My biggest problem was that I felt like I was reading a self-published book - characters were underdeveloped (I'm talking about you, Jules), timelines didn't match up (one day it's spring then suddenly it's Christmas), and little mistakes distracted me. And don't get me started on poor Tommy! He was apparently super important to Nikki, but she had like one or two conversations with him during her six month Return. And sometimes Nikki's inability to see the answers directly in front of her were frustrating
Spoiler- I wanted to shake her and hell "Mary is important! Stop dismissing her!"

If a really good editor had gone through this book and cleaned it up, I think I would have liked it a lot more.
