A Nearly Normal Family by Mattias Edvardsson
3.5

The story of this almost normal family was told in three POVs. They didn’t alternate, though. so we’re introduced to the story by the patriarch, Adam, who I seriously hated after about 25 pages. He was a helicopter dad to his and his wife, Ulrika's daughter, Stella, and when Stella got arrested for the murder of some guy, he acted like a straight up fool running around their small town and yelling at everyone. I got secondhand embarrassment. That’s right. From a fictional character.

Then we’re introduced to Stella who’s annoying in her own way, but I gave her some slack because she’s 18, and she has Adam as a father. She offers new insight to Adam's version of things, and by the end of her turn to tell the story, I both felt sorry for and liked her.

Ulrika told her version of events last, and she was by far the smartest member of the family. Everything came to head at the end of her version, which I was thankful for because I was really afraid I’d have to listen to Adam drone on again.

Anyway, this book was good but not great. But those fools were anything but normal.
