In a world ravaged by climate change and instability, Jacqueline Millender creates the Inside, a world completely enclosed from the outside environment, where people can apply to live in safety. Ava is one of the lucky ones who gets to move in, but can it truly be the utopia she is longing for? We follow Jacqueline, Ava, and more as they try to find happiness in this new world.

I was pleasantly surprised by this novel. It has a great premise. In particular,
the idea of an all-female utopia is something I'm sure many women have considered. I enjoyed how this novel picks apart that idea and shows how it's actually a very complicated and potentially harmful idea.

The characters were interesting and dynamic. I loved the different characters and how their timelines merged and impacted each other. Jacqueline's storyline highlighted the toxicity of white straight cis feminism. However, she was a bit over-the-top evil and this plot line might have been more effective if she was more realistic. Ava's storyline was more focused on her own character growth and finding herself. I loved that we got more macro and micro perspectives on events throughout the book.

One thing I wanted was to know more about the rest of the world! What was happening outside of North America? What was day-to-day like for people still living outside? We got a few little snapshots of this, but I really wanted more information.
