Mason & Dixon by Thomas Pynchon
4.0
I did it!
Mason & Dixon has been one of my biggest reading challenges this year (along with Rushdie's Midnight's Children). When you combine the page count of 772 with Pynchon's dense writing, this was never going to be a quick read. There was lots of Pynchonian wonder, mystery and paranoia, which was great! Pynchon's writing and structure are excellent, as always. There was also lots of historical fictiony stuff, which I wasn't as interested in, so that made the story drag a bit for me. Less dense and far less convoluted than Gravity's Rainbow, but my lack of interest in the historical fiction nature of the story meant that this one was harder for me to get through. I'm not sure if I would read it again?
