The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna
Did not finish book.
Reasons For DNFing:
1. The writing was not as incredible as I hoped. (This was not the main reason, though.)
2. The fact that the alaki are demons, and proudly call themselves demons.
3. The Combat State, battle stances etc. sounded exactly like spiritual exercises that basically, in a condensed statement, lead to connecting with demons, real demons.
Note* I am fully aware of the fact that a. many readers would not realize how real the so-called magic system of the Deathless books is and b. that many readers have no issues with the reasons stated above.
That said I wish that someone else had noticed and said something, because if I had been aware I would not have chosen to read (part of) this book.
