A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

4.0

I usually don't read this book genre so I started reading unsure of what to expect. I ended up becoming invested in the characters and the story.
The plot is pretty much the same plot as Beauty and the Beast. Girl gets taken captive to save her family, gets Stockholm syndrome (falls in love with captor), the castle is under a spell that only the girl can break, and true love conquers all.
I was struck by how the book felt disjointed at times and how Feyre's priorities dramatically change. The Feyre we meet at the beginning is fully focused on saving her family. The Feyre at the end of the book doesn't think twice about her family. Once she finds her true love, she seems to forget her family.
The second half of the book is cruel and dark, such a stark contrast to the scenes where Feyre is enjoying living in a faerie palace. I wasn't expecting it to take such a dark turn at the end. Those chapters were tough to read.
