I came to this book looking for something lighthearted and silly to read at work and it provided exactly that but GOD was it dated. Andy manages to find a way to make racist comments about every minority and her hatred of all things fashion reads very "I'm not like other girls", especially since she doesn't ever learn to appreciate fashion in the book. Andy's arc feels overall less satisfying than in the movie as it felt like she learned only half of what she needed to because she is still demeaning her former coworkers at the very end of the text. There were also portions of the book that seemingly made no sense (i.e. a scene in which a character is simultaneously passed out drunk and also helping our protagonist with her makeup,) it may have just been unclear writing that left me confused but either way there were moments that didn't work for me. It was fun to revisit this story, but in the future I will just watch the movie instead.
