Good writing, strong female characters and a well-paced plot. This is a very enjoyable queer Western.

It opens in 1877 in Arkansas, where 16-year-old Bridget mucks out stables and washes other people's dirty clothes to put food on the table for herself and her alcoholic father.

Her father decides to try his luck out West and they set out to cross the prairie. He dies from snake bite and Bridget wanders, starved and alone, finally stumbling into Dodge City. She's offered a job whoring at the Buffalo Queen--a brothel run by women. The town's sheriff falls in love with her, but Bridget is in love with another whore.

Everything changes when a woman gunslinger named Spartan Lee strides into town, leading to a dramatic chase across the prairie and a deadly ambush.

I don't read Westerns. The genre doesn't appeal to me. But I enjoyed this one. The historical details seem well researched and the relationships among the women ring true.
