The Hunting Wives by May Cobb
2.0

1.5 stars. Why was there so much drunk driving in this book??? Put down the shot glass and order a flipping Uber, ladies. I would not recommend this to a friend, but I would also be lying if I said I didn’t finish the book -

I kept thinking that we would see some character development or a big twist to explain Sophie’s determination to throw away her picture perfect stay at home-blogger-mom life, but we never get it. At the beginning of the book I thought these characters were boring, and by the end I hated them. Where was the backstory? Where was the remorse? There was so much missed opportunity to share why these women are the way they are (were?). I needed someone to root for, or at the very least someone to relate to.

I also wanted this to be more of a thriller.
Possible Spoilers:
This book didn’t become a murder mystery until the last 1/3, but luckily we’re all addicted to cheap reality tv drama. Even then, the earlier 2/3rds of the book could have been used to sprinkle clues about the murder throughout, but instead we ended up with a reveal that was more process of elimination by alibi than the dramatic ending I wanted. I’m just surprised that the Mapleton police didn’t figure it out on their own. Were they not familiar with the concept of a motive?

Let’s just say I’m still on the hunt for this summer’s great popcorn thriller.
