One of the benefits of being so behind to read this series is that I heard about how so many folks disliked how the story ended.

I had low expectations going in and that helped me enjoy this book more. The plot was extremely thin as the central mystery was immediately solved but dragged out till the end, the intrigue and villain from book two didn't amount to anything (why awaken Claudia's aunt?), and the FMC's dilemma and choice? 😮‍💨

I wasn't sure if it took me three days to finish the last 25% of the book because I was drawn in by another book (Fourth Wing!) or if it was because there was no compelling threat, but I see now it might not have been me. There was also more I wanted to learn about some of the other princes that were left open ended instead.

That being said, the story ended tidily enough and the spice was great.
