This book is not the stage musical. The book is far darker dealing with themes of infanticide, unethical non-monogamy & racism. Wicked is engaging and thought-provoking novel. Elphaba struggles to reconcile her desire for social and political change with the harsh realities of a world ruled by the Wizard’s oppressive and corrupt government & the people influencesd by it.

Ideal Reader:
A reader who likes to back a Villain or loves a villain redemption arc. With the complexity of themes explored I’d recommend 16 & up.
A reader who wants to read about difficult societal and political topics in a fantasy realm.
