The Age of Genius: The Seventeenth Century and the Birth of the Modern Mind by A.C. Grayling
4.0
I picked this one up specifically as research for my own novel, and it definitely suited its purpose and gave me plenty of ideas to play with.
This book pointed out how much of world history - even western history - I am unfamiliar with. So much happened in the world and I find myself sadly misinformed.
My one caveat with this book is that the conclusion seemed to come totally from left field and seemed unrelated to the claims and conclusions of the preceding chapters. There were ideas - such that spreading ideas requires a reliable post system - that were fascinating - but I found the logic and the argument of this book very difficult to pull out.
