Definitely a step up from Leather and Lark! Rose and Fiona have decent chemistry, but it feels more like nursing a wounded bird than actually falling in love. The whole “forced proximity” thing is there, but the pace is so fast it’s hard to buy into anything deeper than pure lust.

It kicks off strong, fun ride, good plot, but somewhere along the way it unravels into filler. Out of the three books, this one has the lowest stakes and the least sense of danger.

There’s a lot of back-and-forth drama, mostly because Fiona can’t stop dwelling on his past relationship. And the “friends with benefits” angle is not really my favorite trope.

Still, I enjoyed it more than Leather and Lark, but Butcher and Blackbird remains the clear winner for me.
