Joshua Dread by Lee Bacon
4.0
For years I avoided middle grade books because they just felt too young. (Until I fell in love with Percy Jackson) This book is one of those. Particularly in the beginning, it feels very immature and silly. Which it is, but it gets better. I'd compare it to the movie Sky High. Very cheesy old school super villains vs heroes. Completely unrealistic.
Joshua is a supervillain's kid but he's a good kid. He's developing powers, dealing with bullies (your classic stick him in a locker, swirly bullies) and making friends with the new girl at school.
My favorite characters are probably his super villain parents. (Even if they had the stupidest villainous schemes) They were eccentric to the point of being a bit crazy but deep down were well meaning. Best of all, they were hilarious!
I think this book is better if you read it as a spoof. It definitely doesn't take itself too seriously.
Would I read another one? Maybe if I didn't have to pay for it. (or like this one, found it at the dollar store)

It was totally not a twist to find out who her dad was.My favorite characters are probably his super villain parents. (Even if they had the stupidest villainous schemes) They were eccentric to the point of being a bit crazy but deep down were well meaning. Best of all, they were hilarious!
