Death by Coffee by Alex Erickson

1.0

This was the worst. I’m amazed I even finished it. To start with the main character is new in town and a person dies after visiting her coffee shop. Even though the police say her shop has nothing to do with the death, she takes on the role of investigator. She is new to town as in her first week in town. She approaches people out of the blue to question them all the while thinking they may kill her or injure her. Why she thinks this we have no idea.
She is constantly thinking negative. Always assuming the worst. She’s a pessimist and self absorbed.

There’s no premise for her to investigate. She doesn’t build relationships with the people in the small town. She alway assumes the worst and that they want to hurt her. So why does she run up on them in the street when they don’t even know her or her them? Why does she just show up at someone’s house to question them?

She goes on one date and obsesses over him like they are in a relationship including being upset because she calls three times during his working hours and he doesn’t pick up or return the call. Or he doesn’t accept her friend request.

At one point she has delusions that she’ll be the hero for solving the murder and get a parade in her honor. She calls the man she went out with once, her guardian angel. And thinks numerous times that he would come and save her.

It’s a ridiculous premise. It’s irritating to read. I will not read any more in the series which is a shame cause I like the light cozy mystery to relax and distress.
