The Antelope Wife by Louise Erdrich

Tangled, ferocious, and captivating -- this book took me by surprise. It lives on a magical razor edge between brutality and wandering, inescapable beauty. I read the revised edition from 2012; I'm also fascinated by the impulse to revisit and remake. In this case, I loved the "new" version of the book.

Elegant writing from the POV of a dog never hurts either.
