The Gate of the Feral Gods by Matt Dinniman

4.0

The fourth book of the DCC series sees Carl and Princess Donut survive the fifth floor of the "world dungeon," which comprises a series of individual world bubbles. Only a few crawlers are assigned to each bubble, and within each bubble three keys must be obtained in order to open the bubble (permitting travel to other bubbles) and to open access to the stairwells to the sixth floor.

In this book, Carl obtains and uses a powerful device called the Gate of the Feral Gods, with which he wreaks havoc on more than one level of the dungeon. (Read the book to find out how and which levels! It's pretty badass.)

The theme of "waking up" NPCs continues in this book. Carl ultimately manages to save a group of NPCs from their assigned fates at the hands of the showrunners and to transport them to lower levels of the dungeon. One in particular, a changeling prostitute named Juice Box, will become a major player in Book 7.

This is also the second book in a row in which Carl and Donut summon gods and/or demons, which is becoming a bad habit....
