Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
3.0
I found this book pretty tricky to read. Maybe I've gotta stop reading 100 year old books. T
hat being said, I feel like as I got closer to the end, the meaning/philosophy behind the book became increasingly relevant to me. It's about mindless pleasure seeking and how dopamine and pleasure can become controlling. The government in the book essentially uses it to control people.
What does pleasure mean if there is no pain to counteract it? Pain and suffering is an essential part of being human, and you can't feel pleasure without feeling pain first.
Remember that South Park episode where Butters says something really similar?
