Sense and Sensibility
by Jane Austen
I still liked it more than Wuthering Heights but it’s still boring. I found the issue with novels of manners is I don’t really care about any of the “stakes”. This is people going to each others’ houses and sitting in living rooms and getting in carriages to go to other people’s houses to sit in their living rooms and gasp and whine about marriage prospects.
Jane Eyre does this too but I enjoyed it a lot more because Jane actually DOES things like sew, bake, teach, etc. she has all the same worries as the Dashwoods but she’s not sitting around. I guess I’m trying to say “get a job!” or I’ll be bored to tears.
Also these sister do not fight enough for there to be any real tension. “Humph”-ing at each other is not fighting please get real.
