This was a lovely regency romance. I thought the pacing of the book was good and Kate's character was well-developed. The repressed romance element was excellent...I wanted to shake Kate every time she was seemingly clueless about Henry's feelings!
I gave it 3 stars because I was really disappointed in the side characters, especially the women. Why were they all so nasty? It was a disappointment that they were all written like caricatures instead of layered, complex women. Especially with the societal pressure and norms of this era, the author could have really written some solid characters, even if they were still nasty. I also was over the bird symbolism. I felt like it was a little too much. The parallels were very obvious without needing to be reminded of them regularly.
But, if you are looking for a sweet, simple regency romance, I would recommend this one. It held my interest and I was heavily invested in how it would end. I enjoyed it, I just didn't love it
