A must-read memoir for those that are misfits, depressives, or Simpsons fans :D
Or if you just loved "I am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter".
I love Sánchez. I hope to hear much more from her. I know she's a new mother and professor so I hope that she will continue writing once she has more time. It took 10 years for her to create her novel so perhaps she is a slow writer. I'm here for it. I will happily savor anything she produces.
I recently attempted to read "Family Lore" by Elizabeth Acevedo and did not care for it. All the reviews are talking about her unique perspective and voice. I did not get that. I get that from Sánchez. I think she is giving voice to an entire generation of women who have been silenced and continue to be silenced. I see them every day at my college and I hope they find her so they can see themselves and see another way/s.
